Aims

The Centre’s main aims are the following:

  • Pursue extensive editorial and inventorial research on the history of medieval Poland
  • Apply state-of-the-art digital research methods (digital humanities) to Polish medieval studies
  • Disseminate Polish research on medieval studies abroad

In order to meet our goals, we endeavour to:

  • Critically edit and digitally share unpublished source material of paramount importance for Polish history and culture, including vast collections of documents and manuscripts comprising hundreds or even thousands of items
  • Edit and share the corpus of Polish medieval seals
  • Create a bibliography of Polish medieval studies
  • Publish a specialised journal covering a range of issues pertaining to medieval history
  • Design and run a series of summer workshops for aspiring young medievalists
  • Share our research through conferences and publications (both printed and digital)

Several dozen Polish specialists in source studies and historical source editing have gathered to complete this task of providing academics and students with the modern research tools necessary to study Polish medieval history. These specialists represent a range of universities and institutes within the Polish Academy of Sciences. Together, they make the Centre a valuable platform to exchange experiences, train young researchers, and, ultimately, to invest in the future of Polish medieval studies.
